That Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is the top candidate to fill upcoming head coaching jobs this offseason, though New England defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is also pretty high on the list. nfl.com ranks Joe Thuney as the 21st-best rookie this season.
No doubt one of the rookie players who is leaving their mark long before the thought is OL Joe Thuney.
The young player coming from North Carolina State has been able to fill one of the available slots within the offensive line after the injuries and absences of several of his most experienced members. Thuney has had such a resounding turnout that many point to being the starter in the left guard position.
On the offensive line this year, though, there might be an opportunity for third-round draft choice Joe Thuney. Thus far, after six training camp practices, he’s made the most of his chances. During team periods, the N.C. State product has been lining up regularly at left guard between left tackle Nate Solder and center David Andrews. He’s also acquitted himself nicely during the daily 1-on-1 pass rush drill against nearly every defensive lineman he’s faced.

Neither player was able to garner the eight votes necessary for induction, however, so each was among the nine nominations put forth by the committee.

In the past the Patriots have rolled the dice on injured players, understanding that they wouldn’t likely be available in the first year but recognizing the potential value of getting a first-round talent much later due to the injury.
